So several questions I have from reading this:
1) Is it true that ALL SNES consoles within a serial number range 'between UN318299752 and UN321238373' have the 1CHIP?
2) Regarding post #6, is it true that the second revision of the 1CHIP (1CHIP-02 versus 01 and 03) really eliminates the vertical bar or does the revision actually not even matter?
- The Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Similar to the 5A22 CPU in the console, the SA-1 chip contains a 65c816 processor core clocked at 10 MHz. For Super Nintendo on the Super Nintendo, Pinouts & Protocol FAQ by JChristy. IC-B serially feeds IC-A, which then drives the serial data line to the SNES CPU. SNES SNS 1 CHIP 0.
- Getting a SNES Mini and RGB modding it would be the only surefire way of getting one. Otherwise, any serial number beginning with UN309 or above is likely to be a 1CHIP.
- The SNES Mini and 1CHIP consoles output a much higher quality signal then the older SNES revisions. This page explains the differences. Please read on for more information: A Brief History of the SNES Revisions: While there is only one board revision of the SNES Mini, the original Super Nint.
- Open the bottom Expansion door on your PAL SNES, If there is the “Ring of glory” and none of the 3 solder dots, then it’s 100% LEGIT that it’s a 1-CHIP SNES console. Another way of knowing as well is if the Serial Number of the SNES PAL console is the later models with the serial Number from UP176XXXXX onwards.
The serial number should be partially printed on the chip that holds the ROM data. Also It is laser etched on the chip after the game is flashed to the ROM chip (or chips.) In my example, see the #2. On these flash chips, you see “NES-PY-0”. Note, on the front of the game, the serial number was “NES-PY-USA”. The serial numbers can be.
